Mayor Gonzales Names Rebecca Dishotsky Chief of Staff,
First Woman to Hold San Jose Post

San Jose, CA - San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales appointed Rebecca Dishotsky as chief of staff for the Mayor’s Office today. Dishotsky has been serving as acting chief of staff since August.

"As the first woman to serve as the Mayor’s chief of staff in San Jose, Rebecca is an outstanding model of leadership and achievement for women in local government and politics." said Mayor Gonzales. "Over the past three years that we have worked together, she has demonstrated very effective strategic abilities to help me better serve San Jose residents and neighborhoods."

"She skillfully stepped up to the challenge of managing the complex range of issues and opportunities for my office while my former chief of staff Jude Barry was on leave to run the successful Measure A campaign. I have full confidence in her leadership, and I look forward to working with her as we continue to make San Jose a great place to live and work."

Dishotsky has been deputy chief of staff since Gonzales took office as San Jose’s Mayor in January 1999, and has been responsible for intergovernmental relations, administrative operations, and a wide range of policy priorities for the Mayor. She was instrumental in helping Gonzales secure state funding commitments of $760 million earlier this year for extending BART to San Jose.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to build on a solid foundation of accomplishment that Ron Gonzales has achieved during his first two years as Mayor of San Jose," she said.

"While working closely with the Mayor and a terrific team of people in the Mayor’s Office, I have had the great privilege to learn about forging consensus and managing change to successfully serve the people of San Jose. I am delighted to be able to lead this effort for Mayor Gonzales in the future."

Prior to joining the city, Dishotsky served as Gonzales’s campaign finance director, raising more than $1million during his successful mayoral election in 1998. She also served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Administrative Director for United States Senator Robert Torricelli of New Jersey.

A Silicon Valley native, Dishotsky graduated from University of California at Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree in History.
