Mayor Gonzales is pictured above at the Read 2 Lead Scholarship Gala on Friday evening, September 17, 2004.   This gala was the final event following two days of activities that led up to the Read 2 Lead Game between San Jose State University and Morgan State on Saturday, September 18.  Other activities included a golf tournament, a forum with Bill Cosby and a performance by SJSU fraternities at the Center for Performing Arts.

Mayor Gonzales spoke, "Thank you all for coming to tonight's gala hosted by San Jose's very own "City Flight" Magazine...I am especially delighted to see the universities lining up at scrimmage to help our children, students and athletes achieve success...the road to success starts long before game time...and continues with good schools in strong neighborhoods that support learning - not only in the classroom but also before and after school."
