San
José is aware of the many
dangers facing our
students at the end of the
school day. Gangs, drugs,
and lack of supervision
are real and present
worries that parents face
daily while they are away
at work.
After
school programs such as
San José’s homework
centers provide safe,
academically focused
environments where San José's
youth can receive
individual and group
tutoring, complete
homework assignments and
special projects, and
increase their use of
computer technology.
San José’s
homework centers provide
the means and conditions
to continually connect
students to school and
improve their academic
achievement and success.
Homework centers are a part of an annual grant
program available to
schools and non-profit
organizations to assist in
the operation of before
and after school
educational programs for
San Jose students.
Homework Centers
and recreational centers
for before and after
school programs serve
11,000 students are
