Mayor Gonzales attended the Almaden Elementary School Smart Start Opening on Friday morning, December 10, 2004.  When this center begins official operation in Spring of 2005, the program's capacity will be a total of 96 seats.  Almaden Pre-K Program is the first Smart Start San Jose program to serve families living in south San Jose.

Mayor Gonzales spoke, "...Along with my colleagues on the City Council we spearheaded Smart Start San Jose to address the shortage of child care options available to parents.  I am proud to say that we have created nearly 1,700 new, quality child care spaces in San Jose!"
