Mayor Gonzales is pictured with Vice Mayor Dando, family members of Jeffrey Fontana,  and friends at the Jeffrey Fontana Public Art Dedication on Saturday, June 5, 2004.  The cast bronze art features a police officer sitting on a bench with a little boy.  Jeffrey's enthusiasm for public safety, his compassion for children and his devotion to family are conveyed in the art piece created by sculptor Gary Alsum.

Mayor Gonzales spoke "This memorial serves as a reminder of the risk and sacrifice that our police officers and fire fighters face as they protect our community.  They are our real heroes who quietly and professionally carry out their duties to help keep San Jose the safest big city in America.  I want to give a special thanks to Vice Mayor Dando, the Fontana family and to all those who have helped us honor this great man in this neighborhood. "
