The week of May 11 through May 17 is declared National
Police Week wherein Police Departments honor the memory
of fallen officers in the line of duty.  This annual memorial
was held in front of San Jose's City Hall on
Wednesday, May 14, 2003.

Each ringing of the bell signified the memory of the
eleven San Jose officers that have fallen in the line of duty

Mayor Gonzales spoke to the many in observance
"We are here today to acknowledge the commitment
and courage of our law enforcement officers.  On behalf
of our residents, I express the deep gratitude of our
community to our police officers for their skill and professionalism;
for the risks they take and for the sacrifices they make."

Officers stood in front of City Hall and listened to the
speakers.  The Mayor said, "Our police officers help to keep
San Jose the safest big city in America.  As Mayor of
San Jose I am very proud to say this.  Memorials such as
this remind us to remember and pay tribute to these officers."

The officers watch as a proclamation is presented
