Mayor Gonzales spoke at United Parcel Service San Jose
Headquarters on Thursday, May 19, 2003.  The UPS
Foundation announced a $50,000 grant to the Hispanic
Scholarship Foundation.  The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is
nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic
higher education.  The $50,000 grant will be used for
college scholarships for 26 Latino students throughout
the nation, including five in the Bay Area.

More than 350 UPS drivers turned out for the event.

of North California hold the check for $50,000.

the event, "UPS is a leader in community service...that is
demonstrated again today by the generous donation
to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. The donation by UPS
is going to have a major impact on the lives of
five young people here in the Bay Area and an
additional 21 students through the nation...
