Mayor Gonzales, Intel present 
Ten Educators with $2000 Awards

San Jose, CA ----  San José Mayor Ron Gonzales joined community leaders to recognize extraordinary achievements to improve the quality of public education in San José and to help students succeed.

“The quality of our community tomorrow will be based on the quality of our children’s preparation today,” said Gonzales. “Our teachers and those who support their success with students are therefore more than educators.

“They are the architects for building our common future, stewards of our nation’s democratic values, and cultivators of opportunity and prosperity. For this we honor their dedication to excellence in education.” 

The second annual event, held Friday evening at the Tech Museum, was cosponsored by Intel Corporation, which underwrote ten $2000 awards for outstanding teachers, school staff and community members.  The ten award winners were selected by a panel of community educators from a pool of 32 finalists who were nominated by other teachers, parents, community organizations, and administrators.

In addition to recognizing educators, Mayor Gonzales and city councilmembers also commended 20 outstanding San José high school students who were nominated by their schools.

“These students represent the best in our city,” said the mayor. “They have balanced high academic achievement, community service, and leadership that make them role models that we all are proud to have in San José.”
