City of San José
Future Teacher Loan Program

INTRODUCTION

The City of San Jose, in conjunction with San Jose State, National Hispanic, and Santa Clara Universities, is accepting applications for its 2000-01 San Jose Future Teacher Loan Program. The loan program is designed to encourage San Jose residents to complete an approved teacher preparation program and to teach in a public school (K-12) that serves at least 50% San Jose residents.

The City of San José will lend each successful applicant up to $3,000 annually (with a maximum of $15,000 over a five-year period). In exchange, the applicant commits to successfully complete an approved teacher preparation program at San Jose State, National Hispanic, or Santa Clara University, and to serve as a teacher in a San Jose public school upon completion of his/her education. The City will forgive an amount equal to the annual loan amount received (up to $3,000 per year or $15,000 over five years) for each subsequent year the loan recipient teaches in a K-12 public school serving at least 50% San Jose residents.
